New acoustic cover: “Feel Good Inc.”(Gorillaz)

My next acoustic cover is out now. This time I took on “Feel Good Inc.” by Gorillaz and probably ruined it in my own way. Originally, I only wanted to record the “windmill, windmill” part with ukulele and vocals because I’ve always loved that section – just as a short reel. Covering the entire song was never the plan, especially because of the heavy hip-hop vocals.

But at some point, ambition took over. I spent an entire afternoon practicing the rap parts and eventually recorded them in one continuous take. In the end, there it was: a complete acoustic version of “Feel Good Inc.” – raw, human, not perfect, but made with a lot of heart.

New single “Reveries Of Snow”

Today, “Reveries Of Snow” is released as another single from my second Mansions In The Sea album “Gloom Folklore”. The CD is already available via the Winter Solitude shop, while the digital release continues to unfold song by song on a monthly basis.

“Reveries Of Snow” tells a mysterious murder story set in the snow. A dark winter folk tale for those who don’t just want to watch crime stories, but hear them. Somewhat in the vein of Nick Cave’s Murder Ballads, but in acoustic form – darker and more rough-edged, as if Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen had also served as godfathers. An epic, narrative-driven song, deliberately kept simple so the vocals can carry the story. For those who don’t treat music as mere background noise, but let entire worlds emerge in their minds while listening.

Nun habe ich die CD auch in meinen Winter Solitude Shop aufgenommen – mit samt zwei T-Shirt-Motiven. Wenn Ihr also in der Vorweihnachtszeit handgemachte, melancholische Musik hören wollt oder noch das passende Weihnachtsgeschenk sucht, schaut doch mal vorbei. Die CD wird es derweil nur bei mir geben, dafür kann sie jeder, der/die will, handsigniert bekommen und unterstützt mich auf dem direktesten Wege.

Now I’ve also added the CD to my Winter Solitude shop—along with two T-shirt designs. A Night To Remember – Single & Video

Today another single from my new album “Gloom Folklore” is released, “A Night To Remember”. It’s one of Mansions In The Sea’s darkest songs – with deep, sonorous vocals, enigmatic lyrics and a sound somewhere between dark folk and southern gothic. If you like the late Leonard Cohen, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth here. I also made a performance video for it – elegant and in black and white – which I’m very proud of. Now on YouTube!

Slayer Acoustic Cover

I’ve recorded a new cover, transforming Slayer’s “South of Heaven” into a folk acoustic song. Not exactly an obvious choice, is it? But all the better, because I like cover versions that take a risk. Sometimes they fail, sometimes they don’t. The choice is yours. In any case, I want to emphasize that I’m a big fan of Slayer, and this song is meant as a tribute. The video is available on YouTube.

Spiritual and deep, featuring an acoustic arrangement and warm, melancholic vocals that will hopefully provide fans of folk and singer-songwriters with a few pleasant moments.

Heute erscheint die 3. Single aus dem kommenden Mansions In The Sea-Album “Gloom Folklore”: “Appropriate Places” ist ein sehr persönlicher Song darüber seinen Platz in der Welt zu finden …so spirituell gesehen, aber auch ganz praktisch. Ich suche nach wie vor danach

Ich mag die Nummer, auch wenn sie mich vor große Herausforderungen gestellt hat. Ich hab den Song gefühlt 10x neu eingesungen, da ich mir dummerweise die Herausforderung gestellt habe, den Gesang extrem tief anzulegen, aber ich trotzdem die Leichtigkeit der Musik auch in der Stimme einfangen wollte.

Ab sofort auf allen Streaming-Plattformen. Wer den Song auch auf CD hören will, ich habe mir sagen lassen, da läuft aktuell ein kleines sympathisches Crowdfunding auf Startnext.

Today marks the release of the third single from the upcoming Mansions In The Sea album, “Gloom Folklore”: “Appropriate Places” is a very personal song about finding one’s place in the world… spiritually speaking, but also very practically. I’m still searching for it 😉 I like the song, even though it presented me with some great challenges. I re-recorded the song what felt like 10 times, because I foolishly set myself the challenge of singing extremely low, but I still wanted to capture the lightness of the music in my voice.
